Every dj in the world needs a
start. Whether its a birthday event or a new year festival or marriage
and house parties...initially they need to be a part of these things to check whether his/her sounds actually feed to them enormously. It's an essential step
because every promoter in the world wants to see how much a dj is capable of
bringing audience in terms of quantity on his/her own ability. You can also
have a check at the audience size of other local fellow artists but you should
only be serious about your own check i.e. Own perseverance.
Gig: Landing to a gig as a professional can only happen if your effort
goes in the right direction. Take a visit to your nearby nightclub or festival
and be a part of it as a normal festival-goer. You need to be picky before
choosing any night because the genre of music presentation is also important.
If you are going to play that sort of your music then go for it. Just attend
the event, enjoy the music, have drinks, fun just as a normal person. Live
visual experience is key to get an overall identification of a balanced
nightlife
Be a friend of
own: Now you have got the visual
experience, its time to search for the promoters out there. Don't ask anyone
about promoter. You have to find him on your own. Be a real person and be
personable while being in touch with them...its not good to approach them for
gig at the initial stage. Take it simply. Just make sure communication is
there, attend event timely and you will get better with the communication and
can raise your topic. Friendliness is important here.
Play it true: Now you must have got the idea of what kind of event does that
promoter host and promoter also knew that you are a dj. Ask them if he/she
would like to have your mix. Got the email...now you can make a mix and send to
them. Send your music mix with respect to the genre it should have. Never send
anything which you don't like or something you don't want to be part of. Also
make sure you know exactly what kind of music does the promoter like. If they
like your music they will contact you.
Make it a Grand: Ok now you impressed the promoter with your music, here comes the
main part that i.e. Live performance. They like your mix...now they will book
you as an opener for any festival to see your live performing skills. You don't
have any excuses right now, its your shot, be ready and you have to perform.
There is a maximum chance that initially he will book you as an opener in any
festival. Try to cater to his/her audience, be versatile and make sure to keep
the audience engaged to your music and to engage them song selection is key
here. More people will join if you make the existing crowd feel good. You have
to show them that you can get people on the dancefloor.
You will make great connections if
you get the people dancing and once you did it you will get the idea and you
need to play more regularly after that. Promoters can smell about it from a
distance. It's only the beginning and as the time goes on progressively you
will learn more. Becoming a featured artist takes time, energy and a bit of
luck too and to live upto this stance one needs to be metrically skilled to lay
out the base of musical satisfaction.
